Painting Peace into the World

ree

Moncton, NB, is home to Jasmine Violette, an artist whose watercolors breathe life into birds, florals, and the quiet moments in between. Her journey wasn’t a straight path, it was a rediscovery.

As a child, Jasmine always had a pencil or brush in hand, but after high school, life pulled her away from art. Years passed before she found her way back. In 2018, bullet journaling and calligraphy rekindled something inside her. She picked up a paintbrush again, dipped it in watercolor, and never looked back.

There’s a softness to her work, a gentleness. “I want people to pause,” she says. “To feel peace, love, strength.” Her florals bloom with the same intention, each petal a quiet invitation to slow down.

Pet portraits bring her joy, but birds are her heart. They weren’t always, though. For a while, she struggled to find her voice. What did she want her art to say? Then it clicked, she wasn’t just painting birds; she was telling stories. Her stories. Her studio isn’t just a place for painting, it’s a space for connection. Through her classes, she welcomes beginners and seasoned artists alike, encouraging them to try, to create, to make friends. “Art doesn’t have to be perfect,” she says. “It just has to mean something.”

Being an artist, to her, is about more than selling paintings. It’s about challenging herself, creating things that matter, whether for her own soul or someone else’s. She’s learned to be kinder to herself, to step back when needed. “You can’t rush growth,” she says. “Just enjoy the process.”

The future holds exhibitions, new work, stepping beyond comfort zones. But no matter where her art takes her, the core remains the same, painting moments that make people stop, breathe, and feel. Her advice to new artists? “Be gentle. Don’t compare. Love what you make.” Because in the end, that’s what art is, an act of love.
